Inspired by a love of animals and mythology, the game art for Wind & Waterfalls is meant as a catch-all for various creatures to come to life. This happens primarily in the card deck where Friends, Foes and Wild Cards can help or hinder progress in the game.
Foe Cards are meant to help your progress in the game, and are represented as birds and insects - traditionally “suspect” characters in story books and mythology. The current Foe cards are: The Hungry Wolf, The Fox, The Ghost in the Tree, and the Haunted Hog.
Friend Cards are meant to help your progress in the game, and are represented as birds and insects - traditionally “good” characters in story books and mythology. The current Friend cards are: The Crow, The Sparrow, The Dragonfly and the Magic Moth.
Wild Cards in Wind & Waterfalls are meant to create uncertainty and chaos. These have more direct reference to mythological stories. The Selkie is represented as a cyclops character in an anime style (in human form) and is referencing Scottish mythology. The Anemoi are the “Four Winds” representing North, South East & West (from Greek myths).
The game board was designed to reflect similar characters in the cards, using different representations for each cardinal direction. The spiral layout is reminiscent of the original iterations of Snakes and Ladders.
